Lately, I have been washing my hair an average of 3 times per week. So, naturally when I stumbled across this article about skipping the daily shampoo, I felt vindicated, excited…and like less of a grungy, greasy girl whose hair isn’t squeaky clean! The truth is, my hair doesn’t get super greasy really easily and always looks best on day 2-3 of my shampoo strike. It’s easier to style, less frizzy, and as if that isn’t enough, I’m saving precious time during my beautify Molly routine. With a new baby girl on the way, this girl needs all the extra time she can get!

Here are a few of my tips and some highlights from the above linked article:

1. Shampoo the roots/scalp of your locks and let the rest of the shampoo suds down your hair without scrubbing from root to end.

2. When conditioning, I like to start about mid-way down my head in and really focus on my ends. The scalp has so many natural oils, that increase over time, that I don’t want to grease up my hair like Crisco when I don’t plan on shampooing for a few days!

3. Invest in shampoo insurance! What? Dry shampoo, or the old school baby powder, is a great “quick fix” to an oily scalp. It’s also a great styling product! Blowout Boutique sells dry shampoo in the boutique, so ask about it after your next blowout.

4. Buy a shower cap! I find that the shower moisture can creep humidity and frizz back into my hair when I am in between shampoos. The cap will lock out excess moisture, cutting down on styling time after your shower.

5. Work out junkie who sweats a lot? Wear your shower cap but suds up your hairline, where you’ve probably sweat the most, and rinse. It’s the poor man’s shampoo!

6. Fluff up your hair with a quick 1-2 minutes max blow-dry on days 2-3 of your shampoo cycle. Then, take a straightener or curling iron to polish your look. Don’t forget some heat protector spray and/or dry shampoo in your beauty routine!

7. The front of my hair that frames my face tends to get the greasiest, so I’ll often do a cute side twist or pin back with a bobby pin to eliminate these strands from separating from the rest of my locks. See below the side view!

I felt so special! As if a fabulously styled mane weren’t enough to make me feel pretty and pampered, the Laura Mercier make up artists on hand offering complimentary make up applications were the cherry on top! Gorgeous birthday hair? Check! Complimentary make up application by a professional make up artist? Check, check!

Once I was home, all I had to do was “suit up” in my black maternity maxi and birthday baubles and I was whisked away for an evening of fine, French dining at Chez Fon Fon! What a way to jump start my birthday celebration…in ultimate blowout bliss! Oh, and since my blowout is still fresh thanks to amazing Moroccan Oil products and an uber-talented stylist, I’ll be doing some minor touch ups to my blowout the day after to rock night #2 of good hair!

Like my friend Gates Brown once said, “Good hair covers a multitude of sins!” Can I get an amen, ladies?! I am a firm believer that beauty shines from within, and someone’s heart, soul, and character ultimately make them a breathtaking beauty or unfortunately, sometimes an ugly duckling. But, I also think image and appearance plays an important role in how others perceive us.

Disheveled hair, baggy sweats, no make up, and a frown might send people running in the other direction! It gives the impression that “hey, I don’t care what I look like, so why will I care what you have to say?” No need to give off an “I don’t care” vibe to the world, so let’s put a little effort into our appearance, right ladies? I agree that it’s impossible to have everything together 100% of the time, but let’s face it, a little effort goes a long way. The proof is is the primping, right?!

Whew! She finally gets it right, and boy is she stunning!

Is it just me, or does Emily Maynard, a.k.a. current Bachelorette responsible for pinning dozens of red roses to the lapels of potential suitors, have some fabulous hair? I am not a die hard fan of the Bachelorette reality show, but as I was flipping through the channels recently, her glowing locks caught my eye.

I am positively loving her beach babe-meets-posh-pony look and her bohemian braids and middle hair part with sides pinned back, that serve as the perfect footloose and fancy free, effortless approach to summertime hair. Day date, anyone? She even pays a little homage to 1970′s icon Farrah Fawcett with her feathered layered locks, and looks positively stunning with her blond bombshell ‘do.

Albeit, my hair only looked half as sleek and posh as it does when styled professionally by the gals at Blowout Boutique, it did save me from looking like a hot mess with unruly, frizzy tresses. It also kept my neck and shoulders cool amidst 90 degree temps!

Since I left home without hairspray/humidity spray, I had to use the products on hand to create an at-home version of the posh pony. Luckily, I did remember to pack my Moroccanoil Oil Treatment and some straightening balm to relax my frizzy ‘fro. The Moroccanoil was a lifesaver for this frizzy mane. Oh, and did I mention that I’m pregnant, which equals MUCH thicker hair?? The Moroccanoil was able smooth out the frizz and fight against a bit of the ocean’s humidity.

Here’s how I achieved the look:

-Dime size Moroccanoil Oil Treatment

-2 pumps Paul Mitchell straightening balm

-wide barrel curling iron for pony tail only.

I used a side party and secured a high pony-tail with a hair band and only curled sections of my pony tail with a wide-barrel curling iron. I may have opted to lightly straighten the crown of my hair, but alas, I inadvertently left my trusty flat iron behind at home. As you’ll see, the result is slightly frizzy, but tamed in a posh pony a la beach bunny. Bottom line, I’d rather trust the girls at BB to poshify my pony, but at least I’ve taken away a few tips from my visits there to replicate a similar look on the go!
